TOP 5 REASONS
WHY APPLE WATCH IS AN EPIC FAIL
Goodhour, Synapse Circuit Readers! How are you? I hope that all is well! Do you
already know that you are getting for an update? Will it be an HTC One M9? The
One E9? LG G Flex 2? G4? Or have you, like me, got your eyes firmly on the
Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge?
I don’t suppose you’re going to get a smartwatch to compliment it, are you?
Apple Watch? Read on!

Yes, I know... “Design” is a subjective argument but I am not arguing
about its aesthetics but the design function. The design flaw is that you will
need to pair the Apple Watch with an iPhone 5 or later versions of the handset
thus typically keeping the consumer locked into the iOS / iTunes ecosystem.
Apple could have made the Apple Watch compatible with Android to garner a wider
audience, but the risk is too great for iPhone users to jump ship to real technologically
advanced 64-bit Android handsets.
Above: ASUS ZenWatch; elegance at only £199. And not a Digital Clown in sight!
Essentially the Apple Watch, as with most smartwatches, acts as a cursor / satellite
to the handset but the reality is that we will take our handsets out to surf
the Interweb, watch movies, play games and above all to view messages without
squinting at such a small dainty feminine looking screen. And that’s a flaw
within a flaw in that the Apple Watch looks too feminine for manly men. Sending
out digital scribbles and heartbeats is one thing but it’s not going to beat
sending emoticons via messaging apps such as WhatsApp, LINE, Viber and many
You are not going to get much mileage out of your iPhone if you intend to have
it secondary to a tiny watch screen. In actuality you are paying more to not
use your phone. Again, because the design is small and dainty the battery life
is not going to be good.
On design and function the Apple Watch is already tanking. But there’s bound to
be a few Church of Apple parishioners that will shell out for the $10K+ Apple
The applications for the Apple Watch, from what I can see thus so far, are
more or less a repetition of iPhone apps but to accommodate a smaller screen.
There’s no incentive app-wise for anyone to rush out and purchase this dumbwatch.
If you wanted to set-up a security camera you’d probably be better off using
your old iPhone model that is sitting in a draw somewhere and use it as a spy /
security camera that sends images / video to your current iPhone.
You’re probably thinking, ‘Should that be “base model”?’ But essentially
Apple have created a tier business model that makes you either feel cheap for
going for the base model at $349 or forces you to spend $599 to get the better

Apple is also hoping that the Apple Watch cuts it as a fashion accessory but
you are probably better off with an actual timepiece or the Samsung Gear S
standalone 3G enabled smartwatch for around the same price or go for Android
Wear smartwatch like the Moto 360! Ultimately you might want to invest in a
Rolex if you are thinking about a luxury timepiece. Maybe, just maybe the Apple
Watch will become a museum piece in the future as an example of the worst
smartwatch in history!
4. JO COOL? YOU’RE A
To put it quite bluntly you will look foolish sporting the Apple Watch
for all of the above reasons. You might think that you’re a hip nerdster but
the reality is that you’ll look awfully stupid when you find yourself using
your iPhone more than the Apple Watch, again, for the reasons above. It’s one
way to save the battery on the thing.
Above: Google Glass. I can't wait to see the new version that Google is currently working on. I would prefer Google Glass over the Apple Watch any day of the week! I think this great invention and "invention" is the operative word; it has far more value to me than the Apple Watch any day of the week! Google Glass is worth more than the highest Apple Watch Edition - in my most humble opinion.
5. IT’S AN APPLE
In other words it’s nothing like the competition that is either
standalone or inexpensive enough to compliment the handset. If you look at the
cost of a decent traditional timepiece, from let’s say Seiko for example, it’ll
set you back around £200. Now this is one heck of a price just to keep the
date, time, seconds / stopwatch and alarm. These are things that your handset
does and gives you the weather at a glance! Well, the iPhone doesn’t have
widgets like Android and as soon as I get up in the morning I have a good idea
of what the weather is going to be like.
Above: The standalone Samsung Gear S 3G enabled smartwatch.
Hey, I understand all too well that it can be a little bothersome to bring out
a fairly large handset to check the time – especially when one is in a hurry. When
you are in a hurry and trying to get somewhere on time and you reach for your
handset that is the time you can accidentally drop it. It would be advantageous
to glance at a smartwatch from the any of the competition. So, in some cases,
an Android Wear smartwatch will cost less than a decent Seiko.
6. IS IT A GREMLIN?
What would happen if you went swimming with it to monitor your progress?
What would happen if you jumped into the shower forgetting that you have it on?
Yes, I can count! I just thought I'd give you one for road! ;)
