Good afternoon, Synapse Circuit Readers! As if Samsung wasn’t big enough... Today Samsung have officially launched their new Galaxy MEGA handsets... Check it out...

MEGA CITY
Synapse Circuit did say that this is the year of the “phablet” on the 12^th January this year and since the Samsung Galaxy Note every manufacturer is getting in on the act. As ever, Samsung aren’t content to rest on their flagship laurels (Galaxy S and Note) and have created two new handsets for the expanding phablet market:

IMPRESSIONS
The MEGA 6.3 and 5.8 are great handsets that combine features of the forthcoming Galaxy S4 and the larger screen as with the Galaxy Note. The battery capacity looks promising – especially on the MEGA 6.3! But there again, the battery consumption is relative.

Of course, there will be those who will say that these handsets are too big to fit in the trouser pocket however I personally wouldn’t place my testicles in a microwave. My Note 2 fits comfortably in my jacket pocket! The Note 2 also fits comfortably in my burly man hands!

Again, these handsets are a viable alternative to purchasing a tablet if it is just for the purpose of social networking, viewing media and email. And if you want to be productive on the move a tablet may be better suited to the purpose depending! The MEGA handsets could prove to be popular amongst business users.

The main difference between the MEGA handsets and the Galaxy S4 is that they both feature an 8MP camera; the S4 has a 13MP camera. Of course, a higher megapixel sensor doesn’t necessarily mean a better picture. As with digital cameras in general you have to take into account the quality of the lens. Samsung also manufactures cameras and therefore it is reasonable to expect that the camera quality will be excellent!

The MEGA phones (hee hee...) can be viewed as larger versions of the Galaxy S3. I would also imagine that these new devices will be cheaper to purchase / or pay monthly. It’s a market for those who want the larger screens but do not want to pay the price for premium handsets.

It will be interesting to see how the MEGA goes down in this busy marketplace.
